Partnering with Families
Families play a critical role in supporting their children's mental health. Their support and encouragement, as well as their insights and information sharing during the intake and treatment process, can improve the outcomes of the youth and strengthen the family unit. And yet, mental health providers' misconceptions about families, their biases, and unfamiliarity with addressing barriers to family partnership can greatly impact the families participation in treatment. Mental health providers can benefit in building their capacity to full partner and engage families in the therapeutic relationship.
Throughout the "Partnering with Youth and Families" training series we will identify and discuss several barriers to engaging with families along with strategies to mitigate their impact on the therapeutic relationship and to meet the needs of families, promoting positive outcomes and well-being.
